Unix Systems Engineer

Job Description:

The Unix Systems Engineer will be a strong team player with strong verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must have proven ability to resolve complex technical problems, strong analytical skills, and very resourceful. Candidate must have initiative, have big ideas, and not be afraid to take risks.

All position duties are performed in the context of Internet professional services and require a thorough knowledge of and extensive experience in the Internet industry.

Skills & Qualifications:

Requirements

  • Solaris, Linux, Unix scripting, qualifying hardware, ability to troubleshoot code (PHP, Java, HTML, Perl CGI, SQL)
  • Previous involvement with load balanced set-ups, cluster environments, storage configurations, and back-ups
  • Experience in Internet mail, web, database administration
  • Familiarity with Apache, Tomcat, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Knowledge of ISP based basic systems, SMTP, DNS, IMAP/POP3, SSH
  • Exposure to networking, security
  • Some 24x7 on call emergency page work
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, aggressive self starter and ability to "think out of the box"

Pluses

  • Experience in the ISP realm
  • Rsync, windows servers, Legato, Veritas, Nagios, MRTG
  • Computer programming experience
